CRUISE CONTROL MODULE

GM used three methods of cruise control for the Fiero. In 1984 the cruise control function is integrated into the speedometer circuit card in the instrument cluster.

All '85-88 V-6 Fieros and the '85-86 four-cylinder use a self-contained cruise control module. It is located under the carpet to the right of the accelerator pedal. You will need to loosen or remove the radio console in order to peel back the carpet for access to the module. The cruise control module does not often fail, but when it does it's cost effective to replace it with a salvaged unit.

The '87-88 four-cylinder Fiero has cruise control functions controlled by the Engine Control Module (ECM). The ECM seldom goes bad and if it does then a new one is required. It is much more likely that the mechanical components of the cruise control system will fail than the ECM.

'84: As mentioned above, the '84 does not have a stand-alone cruise control module. If the electronic portion of the system has malfunctioned it will be necessary to swap in a salvaged speedometer circuit card from a donor '84 Fiero. Be careful in obtaining a donor circuit card; not all '84 Fieros had cruise control. Also note that the '84 cruise control does not include the the ability to tap "Set" and have the speed decrease a little or to tap the "Resume/Accelerate" to speed up a little.

'87-88 2.5L: As mentioned above, the 1987-88 2.5L Fiero did not have a cruise control module. Cruise control functions are controlled by the ECM. See the section on ECMs if a replacement is needed.
